Breaking The Pattern Once And For All

I shared with you how words are a main vehicle of blessing or cursing. Your mouth gives expression to what you think, feel and want. Further, our words are a result of who we believe we are! This can work for us …or against us.
Allow the Holy Spirit to bring to your remembrance the sins and iniquities of your parents and forefathers, and confess them. Personally forgive your forefathers of their iniquities. Ask God to forgive specific sins of your forefathers. Make a faith decision to forgive and cancel their debt – including those who have wounded you by their sins and iniquities!

Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Matthew 6:12-15 NIV

Confess your participation in the iniquities of your family tree. Accept the responsibility of your own iniquities. The Word of God reveals in Proverbs 28:13 (KJV):

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”

Ask God to forgive and cleanse you. Remember what He promises in 1 John 1:7-9 (KJV): “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Submit your will to God:

Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed — not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence — continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” Phillipians 2:12-13 (NIV)

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7 (NIV)

Know that Jesus suffered the curse and overcame the devil for you. Allow God to heal you of a sin-consciousness into a righteous-consciousness mindset. Understand that God has all authority and delegated it to Jesus – who has given it to you as a believer. Use the authority of the name of Jesus!

Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Titus 2:14 (KJV)

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.” Luke 10:19-20 (KJV)

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” Mark 16:17-18 (KJV)

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” Revelation 12:11 (KJV)

Declare the power of the blood of Jesus. Declare that your family’s generational curses are broken!

Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” Galatians 3:13-14 (KJV)

Speak blessings over your life and the lives of your children. Remember your words have the power to bless or to curse! At “new birth”, you receive the power, the right and the authority to become a child of God. However, your authority is effective only if it is exercised. Salvation is an event, and it is a process of becoming made new in Christ. The potential of the “new birth” at salvation is unlimited! What you will become or see released in your life is determined by the extent to which you exercise your God-given authority. Break the pattern once and for all by the power of the blood of Jesus!

Breaking The Curse

I shared with you how words are a main vehicle of blessing or cursing. Your mouth gives expression to what you think, feel and want. Further, our words are a result of who we believe we are! This can work for us …or against us.

Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known byhis fruit. 34O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” MATT. 12:33-34

“Abundance”…What does Jesus mean by “abundance?” He means “the surplus.” It is the build up and overflow of whatever is in abundance in your heart. WHAT IS IN YOU, WILL EVENTUALLY COME OUT! Whatever comes out of your mouth – that is what is in your heart in abundance. God’s revelation is never a condemnation..He wants us to confront what He identifies in our life! On the positive side, your world is framed by the words of your mouth. Hebrews 11:3 tells us that the “worlds were framed by the word of God.” If creation would have remained in the heart of God …and never proceeded out of the mouth of God, there would be no world today. Say what you want, not what you see!

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, thatit was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” GEN. 1:1-3

In this verse, we see that God SAID the opposite of what he SAW. HE SAW DARKNESS ….HE SAID, “Let there be light.” HE SAW CHAOS… HE SAID “ORDER.” HE SAW EMPTINESS – HE SPOKE FULLNESS. Your future is framed by what you say, not what you see. God never identifies an area we have to change without giving us the tools to confront these areas. One of the first steps to individual, family or national cleansing is to confess that iniquity: (1 John 1:9-10 KJV) “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” Look at Daniel as an example. Daniel goes into a time of fasting, prayer and confession: “And I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments; We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments: Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land….” (Dan 9:4-6 KJV) The Bible clearly says Daniel was a very godly man who prayed 3 x’s a day. He was called the “beloved of the Lord”. Why did he include himself as being guilty of the national iniquity? Because he understood the mystery of iniquity – the sins that Father had passed from generation to future generations! Secondly, after confessing the iniquity – whether it was on behalf of an ancestor, yourself, the entire nation, or your immediate family, you revoke it, renounce it, and repent of it. Put it under the blood of Jesus! Lastly, continually speak the Word of God over that area of your life or your family’s life and begin to confess that over your family or yourself. You may have to do this repeatedly until you feel something change and when you see the cycle of events come into alignment with the Word of God. All three steps are vital, but it is imperative that you latch on to your scripture with the mighty grip of a warrior breaking chains and speak it over your life with persistence. You must speak the scripture you are claiming over your life until you see and feel this thing break! Romans 10:10 says, “…and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” The Word of God shows us that WORDS are a main vehicle of transferring either blessing or cursing. Our mouths give expression to what we think, feel and want. Further, our words are a result of who we believe we are!! This can work for us …or against us – it all depends on us. WHAT IS IN YOU, WILL EVENTUALLY COME OUT! Whatever comes out of your mouth is what is in your heart in abundance. You can’t conquer what you don’t confront, and you can’t confront what you don’t identify. God will identify the negative cycles of generational cursing in our lives. He gives us power to confront and conquer these curses through using our mouths! Use your words as a powerful tool for blessing, and renounce any agreement with Satan’s words over yourself and others today. Activate your power in Christ by breaking any generational curses, repenting of any generational sins, revoking their influence, and coming into alignment with His Word!

The Power of Life & Death

At “new birth”, you receive the authority to become a child of God. Authority is effective only if it is exercised. The potential of the “new birth” at salvation is unlimited! However, the actual results you see in your life depend on the exercise of authority that goes with it. In other words, what you will become or see released in your life is determined by the extent to which you exercise your God-given authority.
In verse 1 and 2 of Deuteronomy 19, Moses deals with the cause of blessings:

If you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments… all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God…”

More literally, the first part could be translated, “If you will LISTEN LISTENING to the voice of the Lord your God…” The repetition of the verb “to listen” gives added emphasis. Simply stated, the conditions for enjoying the blessings are: FIRST: Listening to the voice of God SECOND: Doing what He says. Blessings are promised to those who hear and obey his voice. In Deuteronomy 28:15, Moses states the primary cause of all curses: “But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee…” The cause of curses is exactly the opposite to that of blessings. They result from not hearing God’s voice and not doing what He says. The refusal to hear and obey God’s voice can be summed up in one word: REBELLION. The meaning of curse in the Hebrew, as it is used here is “vilification.” Let’s really process what this word means: To vilify is: 1: to lower in estimation or importance; 2: to utter slanderous and abusive statements against : defame. The main vehicle of both blessings and curse is WORDS! What you speak is a result of who you believe you are! What is in you, will eventually come out! In Hebrews 11:3, God’s Word declares that “the worlds were framed by the word of god.” If creation would have remained in the heart of god and never proceeded out of the mouth of god, there would be no world today. Say what you want not what you see!

An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered” Prov 11:9 KJV

A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.” Prov 15:4 KJV

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Prov 18:21 KJV

Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth – thou art taken with the words of thy mouth” (Prov 6:2)

The Apostle James had much to say about the use of words. He points out that the tongue is a small member of the body, but the hardest of all to control:

Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.” James 3:5-8

James emphasizes the tremendous power that words have to affect people…. either for good or for evil. You hide yourself from the enemies in your life by speaking His Word. The Word of God is the sword of the Spirit..put it in your mouth and speak it!

Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips, I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer” Ps 17:4

When you speak the Word of God over yourself, you are establishing yourself. His Word causes you to be stable and not waver. Our mouth gives expression to what we think, feel and want. Your words reveal what you believe. What you speak is a result of who you believe you are! I’ve talked with you about how the main vehicle of both blessings and curses is WORDS! You must exercise your authority to choose what you speak – whether you will “vilify” or whether you will “kneel.” God wants to transform you into His original intention – a mighty vessel of honor, used to bring heaven to earth in His mighty name!

Taking Ownership

We all experience hard seasons of testing and trials. We all have to confront things that God breaks off of our life by our time in the Word and our application of the Word to our lives. But sometimes, there are enduring patterns of negative events or actions in the life of a believer that are triggered not by trials, but from generational curses in operation in your life. Let’s focus on what the Word of God states above. Moses encouraged the people to choose life, and reminded them, “This choice not only affects your life, but also the descendants that follow you.”
You must take ownership of your right to see the blessing of Abraham manifested in your life! Everyone wants to hear about generational blessing. We all want to live in, manifest and claim the blessing of Abraham. Let’s talk about generational curses. There are different kinds of curses, but you have to recognize and nullify generational curses in order to see the blessing of Abraham manifest in your life! God wants you to have a new life in Christ – not the old cycles coming back over and over. We don’t give Satan or his demons any credit or glory here. Jesus Christ said, “It is finished!” when He went to the cross! However, if the doctor can’t recognize and diagnose the disease, the patient will continue to be sick. You must recognize and understand when a generational curse is in operation! There is a root cause to every curse. As the Word of God reveals in Proverbs 26:2, “Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow, so a curse without cause shall not alight.” Wherever there is a curse at work, there is a cause for it. You must discover the cause! A curse lowers you in estimation or importance in relation to how God created you and how God sees you. A curse lowers you in other’s eyes. A curse causes slanderous and abusive statements to be uttered about you in the spiritual realm and you may hear them in your mind. You thought you had low self-esteem, but it’s really Satanic influences trying to whisper words of failure into your spirit through a generational curse in operation! Since a curse causes slanderous and abusive statements to be uttered about you in the spiritual realm, they may manifest in real life by being spoken out loud by people who don’t really realize what they are saying. That’s why the Word of God says, “We wrestle not with flesh and blood..” It’s not the person – it’s an evil spirit! The definition of a generational curse is an uncleansed iniquity that increases in strength from one generation to the next, affecting the members of that family and all who come into relationship with that family. The word iniquity means to bend or distort (the heart). It also is the practice of sin to the point it becomes pleasurable; or a predisposition to sin, which is a weakness to yield to that particular sin – passed from generation-to-generation. This is what is passed down through the blood line. When a person continually transgresses the law, iniquity is created in him and that iniquity is passed to the children. The offspring will have a weakness to the same kind of sin. Each generation adds to the overall iniquity, further weakening the resistance of the next generation to sin – until the generational curse is broken and overturned. Paul had a revelation of this when he wrote in 2 Thessalonians 2:7 KJV: “For the mystery of iniquity doth already work:,” The mystery of iniquity that Paul referred to is the unseen and mysterious connection between a father’s sins and the path of his children. Consequently, we will deal with recurrent situations or patterns of behavior that cannot be explained solely in terms of what happened in your lifetime or personal experiences. They are cycles. Are you affected by a generational curse? Here are some red flags: 1) A pattern of constant failure? 2) Have a history of untimely deaths and suicides or a large number of people who have died prematurely? 3) Exhibit a high level of anger? Wrath? 4) Have a high record of accidents or accidents that are unusual in nature? 5) Have a history of abuse such as physical, emotional, or sexual? 6) Have a history of chronic illness – disease? 7) Have a history of mental illness that may have progressed through generations? 8) Exhibit any of these personality behaviors: high-control; manipulation, addiction, co-dependency, depression, unforgiveness, addictions, or social isolation? Here is the original source of the first generational curse. In the beginning, God created the perfect family with an abundant life.

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. Gen 1:28-30 KJV

Adam and Eve walked in the fullness of God’s provision until Satan deceived them and they lost their dominion over the earth. Prior to the fall – their family was blessed. After the fall – however, curse, sin, death and destruction entered into the family. The family as God originally created it has never been the same. Because of the transgression – all families came under a curse. However, God made a provision!

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:5-6 KJV

Taking ownership of the blessing of Abraham means identifying any generational curses at work and exercising your God-given authority to reach the fullness of your destiny and the fullness of the person in Christ you were created to be. God declares in Deuteronomy 30:19, “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; and, therefore choose life (exercise your authority) that both thou and thy seed may live.” God’s blessing covered every area of Abraham’s life. How many of you could use every area of your life delivered from the enemy’s control? We all have seasons of testing and trials – Jesus told us that in the earth we would have trouble! But generational curses are consistent patterns of negative events or actions triggered from generational curses in operation in your life. The blessing of God produces spiritual well-being, prosperity and even success that can be visibly seen. God wants you to experience the fullness of the blessing of Abraham. Are you ready to step into what He has for you? You must confront any generational issues and put it under the blood of Jesus. God wants you to grasp on to a “new thing”! Are you ready to take ownership of the blessing of Abraham?

What Are Generational Blessings & Curses

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; and, therefore choose life that both thou and thy seed may live.” Deuteronomy 30:19

How many of you could use something in your life restored permanently from the enemy’s control? We have all had seasons of testing and trials, or remnants of the world that God breaks off of our life by our time in the Word and our application of the Word to our lives. But sometimes, we have enduring patterns of negative events or actions that are triggered from generational curses in operation in your life. Let’s focus on the proclamation of the Word of God above. Moses encouraged the people to choose life, and reminded them, “This choice not only affects your life, but also the descendants that follow you.” The blessing of God produces good, beneficial results and enables us to succeed. His blessings are mentioned 640 times in the Bible. God mentions His blessing on your life that many times because He is interested in blessing you. God is not interested in you continuing to act in the dysfunctional ways that your mother, father, grandmother, grandfather or any ancestors did. God is not interested in you continuing to reap the fruit of toxic actions inherited from ancestors long ago. No, God is interested in giving you a “new thing” – His way. Our ancestors did the best they could with what they had, but we can latch on to Christ and soar to new levels! The order of God is set in the earth before man ever gets a revelation.

Thou shalt not bow down to them, nor serve them, for I, the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generations of them that hate me.” Exodus 20:5

Our fathers have sinned and their iniquities visit their children.” Lamentations 5

Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands and recompense the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them.” Jeremiah 32:18

Sin means to miss the mark. Transgression is manifestation of sin. Iniquity is the practice of sin to the point it becomes pleasurable; or a predisposition to sin which is a weakness to yield to that sin in particular and is passed from generation to generation. In life, we will deal with recurrent situations, or patterns of behavior that cannot be explained solely in terms of what happened in your lifetime. Sometimes, the things you fall down to really have nothing to do with you, but are a predisposition you inherited from your ancestors who fell down easily to the same things! Did you know the devil has a file on you? Yes, he does. He has familiar spirits that have watched your family from generation to generation. The enemy of your soul knows what works and knows what doesn’t work to make you stumble or cause you to fall. The devil is a liar! According to Psalm 37:24, if you are a person in relationship with Jesus Christ, you may fall, but you will not be utterly cast down, because the Lord upholds you with His hand.

Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the Lord upholds him with His hand.” Psalm 37:24

Knowing this, we must examine the operation of curses. If the doctor can’t recognize and diagnose the disease, the patient will continue to be sick. I pray by reading of this message, you would allow Christ to show you if this is operating in your life and the lives of others. The generational curse of sin causes a pattern of failure. The fruit of generational sin is bad and harmful results that eventually lead to death. Generational blessing and/or curses are not limited to the individual, but extend to families, tribes, communities or whole nations. Once a generational curse of sin is released, it continues in that family from generation to generation…. until something happens to cancel their effects. At the cross an exchange took place, divinely ordained by God. Jesus was punished that we might be forgiven. Jesus was wounded that we might be healed. Jesus was made sin with our sinfulness that we might be made righteous with His righteousness. Jesus died our death that we might share his life. Jesus was made a curse that we might receive the blessing. Jesus endured our poverty that we might share his abundance. Jesus bore our shame that we might share His glory. Jesus endured our rejection that we might enjoy his acceptance. Our old man died so that the new man might live in us!

“…Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” Galatians 3:13-14

There is more to your “salvation” than simply “going to heaven.” Now we are in the New Covenant and the blessing of Abraham comes only in Christ Jesus. In Genesis 24:1, the extent of the blessing of Abraham is defined:

The Lord had blessed Abraham in ALL THINGS…”

God’s blessing covered every area of Abraham’s life. In Christ, you will soar to new levels! Are you ready to deal with it?
